Unit 10 went over two examples of English lessons. Although the first lesson had some positives, it modeled many things that a teacher should not do while teaching students. The second lesson included more examples of things that a teacher should do when teaching English. Some things a teacher should do is be firm, yet friendly. The teacher should maintain order in a positive way by smiling and engaging the students in a kind manner. The teacher should monitor the group to ensure that all students understand his or her instruction and directions. The teacher should make sure that students actively participate throughout the lesson. Many lessons follow the sequence: engage, study, activate. All three of these elements should be connect and logically flow from one to the next. The engage phase gets students interested and exposes them to what they will be learning about. The study phase allows students to practice the objective. The activate phase allows students to further study what they have learned by demonstrating and applying what they have retained from the lesson. Positives can be taken from both lessons; however, the second lesson clearly had more examples of what to do.
