Classroom management is the skill of organising and managing the class, having a friendly, relaxed manner and maintaining discipline.
1.Eye contact, gesture and the voice: These factors are really important in conveying messages, establishing good rapport with the students.
2.Grouping students (Whole-class grouping, students working on their own, pair work, group work
3.Classroom arrangement: organise the position of the students and the teacher according to space available; type of chairs/tables; age, nationality and personality of the students.
4.Writing on the board: We should reduce the amount of time we spend with our backs to the class.
5.Giving individuals attention: Pay attention to all students, know their names, spend time for each member equally.
6.Giving instructions: We can make our instructions effective by attracting the student's attention, making sure everyone is listening and not working.
7.Establishing rapport: Rapport between the teacher and students (and between the students themselves) plays an important part in determining if a class is sucessful and enjoyable.
8.Maintaining discipline: It depends on:
- Age of students
- Reason for learning
- Do students want to be there?
- Class size
- Principles and atmosphere of the school.
- Respect between students and teacher.
I have learnt that in order to manage my classes successfully, i have to focus on all factors in this unit, try to establish good atmosphere and comfortable time for my students. Besides, maintaining a good discipline is an extremely important factor too, it help us to have a good result in teaching and studying English.
