This unit first provided a general overview for why lesson planning is important, noting that it helps the teacher structure the lesson in order to stay focused on a particular language point, provides an outline document that can be referenced as needed during the lesson, and then provides a record of what was covered afterward for future reference. If written out sufficiently in advance of the lesson, it can also be used by another teacher to cover the class if the primary teacher must be absent. The unit then provided an example of a typical lesson plan showing general class information at the top and the ESA procedure below. Finally, example activity sheets were provided as aids for developing a straight arrow ESA lesson re the present perfect tense and a patchwork ESA lesson re the use of 'may' and 'might'. The unit was helpful in seeing how a lesson plan comes together from the parts studied to this point.
