I never realized that the future tense in English is so complex and has so many parts. My students all speak Japanese, which has no real future tense at all. This unit has helped me to understand the complexity of English future tense, as well as how this would really challenge and sometimes confuse my students. I plan to teach the 'going-to' future tense to my elementary students using the suggested teaching idea of asking them what they are going to be when they grow up. As for my older students, they do diary entries already, but they are all in past tense. I think it would be good for them to practice future tense by doing one of the suggested teaching ideas in this unit, the future diary. I'm sure it would be very challenging for them, as even I didn't realize that the present tense simple and continuous could be used to talk about the future.
