In this unit I learnt about the different groups of learners (other than adults) that are becoming a more significant part of the EFL classroom. In particular, the unit discussed young learners and key techniques to teach them. For example, not reverting to the children’s native language, using plenty of visual stimuli, changing activities frequently, making activities fun and being positive and encouraging. The unit also discussed business learners and the needs of the group and techniques to enhance learning. For example, starting with a needs analysis to target lessons so topics will be relevant and useful. And to be understanding for the particularities of teaching business English in that groups can often be tired if classes are after work, vary in age dramatically, have varying experiences with English and can frequently be absent.
