Brief overview:
*A good teacher: be kind and patient, love teaching, be lovely and entertaining, able to motivate learners, has a good subject knowledge, have good rapport and interaction with the class, pay attention to all students through the lesson, correct students without offending them, know students'weaknesses and try to give help.
*The role of the teacher:
- Manager or controller: taking control of a class or activity.
- Organizer: organizing students to do various activities ( giving instructions, dividing students into teams/groups/pairs, initiating activities, bringing activities to a close and organizing feedback)
- Assessor: giving feedback and correction in addition to evaluation.
- Prompter: encouraging the students to give further information by asking a follow up question.
- Participant: Teacher can join in some activities as an equal, not as the teacher.
- Tutor: Giving students some guidance and support without intruding too much.
- Resource or facilitator: teacher sets up an activity to allow the students to practice language use, themselves.
- Model: teacher is the best model for students to imitate
- Observer:monitoring what is going on in the classroom.
*What makes a good learner?
- A willingness to listen to the language.
- A desire to experiment with the language
- A willingness to ask questions
- An ability to think about their own learning process and methods
- An acceptance of error correction
- A desire to learn
*I have learnt from this unit that, in order to become a good teacher, i have to be lively and entertaining. I should organize some games and activities for my students instead of talking too much.
