The future tense is a rather complex area of English grammar, and is certainly the most complex of the three time tenses. While the future tense has the same four aspects as the present and past time tenses, it also utilizes the present simple tense, the present continuous tense, and a tense that doesn't fall into the four recognized aspects - the 'going to' future tense. The future simple tense is used for certainties, promises, predictions not based on present evidence, threats, assumptions, and spontaneous decisions, while the future continuous is used for predictions about what might be occurring in the present, polite inquiries into the plans of others, to state that something will be in progress by a specific point in the future, and to reference future events which are fixed without suggesting personal intention. Meanwhile, the future perfect is used to declare that something will be completed/achieved by a certain specific future point in time; the future perfect continuous is used to explain how long a situation will have been in progress by a specific future point in time; and the future 'going to' tense can be used to state plans, make predictions based on current evidence, and to express intentions. The present simple is used in the future tense to utilize a less personal tone, to explain timetables/schedules, and to suggest a more formal situation. Alternatively, one would use the present continuous in the future tense to either state/make definite arrangements, or to state plans without a definite time frame.
