Unit 11 introduces the basic skills that form a language: receptive (reading and listening), and productive (speaking and writing). Although all 4 skills are equally important and a teacher should try to incorporate all 4 in a lesson, it is possible to simply focus on one specific skill.
Depending on why we read or listen (purpose or entertainment), we will have different motives. There are also different skills a reader or listener has depending on their intention.
This lesson presents the possible problems there may be when incorporating reading and listening into the class. It is important that the activities create interest in the students, and this will depend greatly on the topics and the tasks the teacher selects.
