The gist of this unit was to show the person taking this course how he/she (thereafter using he as it refers to human beings being man) as a teacher should ideally be and what to expect from the learners of the English language. It advises the prospective teacher on his behaviour in class. As personality cannot be changed, it also allows him to reflect on his personality and to adapt or change accordingly to the new role he will be taking up. Self-reflection is a good start to being a teacher as he will continuously make a conscious effort to reflect on his response to learners, behaviour in class and teaching methods.
The general information on learners are also covered in this unit. Things to be aware of that includes but is not limited to culture, region, and factors; characteristics of learners, types of learners, motivations of learners and their language levels. These information provides the prospective teacher with knowledge of what to expect, how to overcome hurdles, understanding his class and more. It also shows a broad spectrum of the types of classes a teacher of this course will come across throughout his career as a teacher of the English language. Another section of this unit is The Common European Framework describing six levels and general preferences of teachers and student motivations.
