So it's very important that the teacher can present both skills in an entertaining and productive manner. Writing, in particular, is easy to overlook as students and teachers may want to focus on speaking and the primary lesson in class. However, it's important to not overlook in importance of writing. Writing is a very accurate and precise medium were mistakes can easily throw off a sentence. While speaking is easier to correct and change in the moment, writing cannot. So a greater degree of accuracy is required.
Speaking can be taught in many ways, and different approaches should always be taken within a lesson. A simple pronunciation, '3 by 3' drill, can help students gain confidence before an activity where they may have to present their own ideas. Games are another way to get students motivated and active in a lesson. Too many worksheets and drill can drain the energy of a student. A fun game can give energy to a class and make the students excited about learning English.
Writing practice can be fun when students are able to express their own ideas in creative writing. The students can be assigned a task of writing a story or filling in the speech bubbles of a comic book. It's important to keep the students entertained as well as challenged to keep them motivated.
