It's very important that each part of a language is given equal attention. Reading, speaking, listening, and writing are all equally important in order to fully understand a language. This unit focuses on reading and listening and how to build confidence and structure a lesson to be more motivating and exciting for a student.
If a student is given reading material that is too difficult or advanced for their level, then they will have trouble becoming motivated to learn. The teacher must select the material carefully as to not intimidate or discourage students from learning. It's also important for a teacher to know how to introduce a topic in a fun and engaging way. The teacher can do this by making sure he or she covers any difficult words beforehand so that the students are prepared and confident in reading. The teacher can then chose a fun topic, such as video games or movies, to make sure the kids won't become bored and may want to hear the information.
It's also important that the teacher provides many different types of instruction and materials. Videos, worksheets and group activities can all be used together to make the lesson fun and interesting.
