Unit 15 is about evaluation of students in different way and their progress which they gained during the course .they are number of ways to assess the students language level
1-tutorial 2-evaluation by students 3-tests
Tutorial :
This can by take place with whole group or with individual students .it could be in 10 minutes at the end of week.
Evaluation by students: in this evaluation students evaluate lesson by themselves by considering if the lesson is easy or difficult or if it is covered all aspects of grammar or vocabulary and its explanation. sometimes teachers ask the result by their mother language if they are in beginning level .
Tests: normally it starts by placement test in beginning of course in order to put the same level of students in one class.
Sometimes teacher give a test periodically to test students progress in lesson . it might be in written form or in group activity and it gives feedback to both teacher and students about their progress . they are internal test but external test are done when students preparing themselves for international exam like IELTS or TOFEL or TOEIC tests .
Placement test : is a kind of test which is done for knowing students English level before beginning the class .test format is in multiple test and it has interview beginning from easiest question to hardest one .
Progress test : it is a test done periodically to measure or gauge their progress during the course .it gives feed back both for students and teacher where it needs more reinforcement and practice .
Diagnostic test :
It is like placement test and sometimes extensive in comparison . it used in beginning of class and shows how much students remember vocabulary or grammar .
Practice test : it is a test given for external test taker in order to evaluate their level according to criteria of international test .
General external test s:
TOEFL test : test of English as a foreign language is an American test is required by most university in USA from non native students
IELTS : international English language testing system is ideal testing for working and immigration and is done in two format general and academic and test for skill and grade are from 0-9
TOEIC : it is a test for international communication and work place English proficiency in Japan and Korea .applicants are tested in two skills reading and listening and it has 200 questions . 100 for reading and 100 for speaking .
Cambridge assessment :it is non teaching department of university of Cambridge and its responsibility is a range of assessments .

Ket = key English test
For elementary level test
PET=preliminary English test
For intermediate level exam in written or spoken language
FCE or first certificate in English
For upper intermediate level exam
CAE : certificate of Advanced English which is minimum level for entering to UK universities .
CPE : certificate of proficiency in English
A very advance level of English for those who achieved high level of proficiency .
BEC certificate : business English certificate .
A test of English for testing business context for students who would like to consider it for career purpose
