Receptive and productive skills in learning are equally an essential as the unit's notes puts it. And it is very important for each learner to be introducted to all these in the learning of a new language and with emphasis in this, learning English. I find it more interesting the talk of non-authentic language being a necessity for new learners as opposed to old learners in the case. I see it more in books designed for kids and sometimes I wondered why the approach was not directed at getting the students to know how it is used in real life. But as it stands, the non-authentic gets them excited and familiar with the language and then they can progress to more authentic usage.
