On of the points that made me think the most was language problems when teaching receptive skills, specially when it comes to existing difference of amount of chances a learner has to understand a text or an audio (quite different). I'd like to focus on listening, since in my humble opinion activities related to this receptive skill can trigger high levels of frustration in students when not understanding a single word, increasing affective filter, and in consequence sending the student in a certain manner out of the activity. In other words, when a student doesn't understand a single word or even a phrase, the learner spends time trying to figure out the meaning, thinking about not being able to understand it, and then thinking about their own frustration; finally, the student will try to catch up and keep listening, but having already missed information while overthinking instead of listening. I base this opinion on my experience as an EFL student. In conclusion, pre-teaching vocabulary, selecting material and contents appropriately plays an essential role in students effective learning when teaching receptive skills.
