Unit 16 covers conditionals and reported speech beginning with clearly defining the grammar (form and usage) of the following conditionals: zero, first, second, third, and mixed. Common student errors/mistakes are noted and teaching ideas given: split sentences, complete the conditional fill in the blanks, chain conditionals, dilemma questions, role plays, and 'what would happen if...scenarios. Following the conditionals, reported and direct speech are defined with special attention paid to the differences in the grammar. Examples were given and a very helpful chart included. Time expression during reported speech are also given to help clarify how direct speech should be accurately reported. The unit concludes by explaining a few useful teaching ideas to help students become more proficient with a moderately difficult English grammar area.
