This unit is concerned with teaching Special Groups. Five types of group are identified. These are: Beginners, 1 to 1, Young Learners, ESP (English for Special Purposes) and Monolingual versus Multilingual groups. Methodologies and teaching tips are provided for each type of group. Several types of beginners are identified. These are "absolute beginners, "false beginners", adults, young beginners, and beginners without knowledge of the Roman alphabet. Concerning ESP, Business English is considered to be a major element of this category. Understanding, planning and execution are all important. In certain categories, such as ESP groups, an analysis of needs is fundamental. Indeed, wants versus needs is a good area to explore. Carrying out a needs analysis and a needs negotiation prior to commencing teaching is essential. I found this unit to be particularly useful as I intend to focus on teaching Business English.
