This unit addresses the four main present tenses in English including their respective constructions and uses. The unit also includes activities for teaching and applying the tenses as well as common student mistakes for each tense. Speaking from personal experience, I find that using a "timeline" or continuum helps to show where exactly tenses fall in relation to each other. For example, the present progressive is the most accurate and descriptive of the tenses. Then comes the simple present, which is similar in regards, but less descriptive. Then comes the present continuous progressive, which is describing an event that has taken place in the past but still continues to this very moment. And finally, the present perfect is almost like the "past of the perfect," meaning that although the action has been completed, you are relating it to the current moment. I believe these tense exist on a spectrum ranging from most current to the past and can be expressed accurately as such.
