In this topic Teaching Pronunciation and Phonology, I have discovered that it is somehow a difficult tasks. It is somehow complicated, however, as an english teacher it would be a great challenge on how to achieve an effective outcome in the classroom. It is very important to integrate some practical techniques and activities, which involve the use of phonetics and phonology in the teaching of pronunciation.
This unit has brought me new insights to the teaching of pronunciation. It is also connected to the physical properties of sounds and their place and manner of articulation in the vocal tract. Sounds are formed by using the articulators or organs of the mouth, nose and throat. These include the upper and lower lips, the teeth, the tongue, the larynx, the pharynx, the hard and soft palates and the uneven tissue positioned behind the top teeth, called the alveolar ridge. It will help a lot when teaching pronunciation, teacher can show students exactly how to form sounds by using these organs. The intonation and stresses in words,phrases and sentences are important to come up with a clear message.
