I'm first going to focus on the active and passive. In school, when studying the passive voice we are taught to avoid it as much as possible when writing, so I find the need to teach it interesting. But here I see why there are cases to use it. First, the difference between the active and passive voice, with the active voice the subject performs the action noted by the verb. With the passive voice it describes a verb being actioned upon to by the subject of the sentence, thus the action is passive. There are rules for using it, which is why it should be taught; when the agent (subject) is unknown, when the subject is not or less important, to change the focus of the statement, or to conceal the identity of the agent.
Next are the modular auxiliary verbs, the would/could/should. Grammatically they can be used interchangeably, but the meaning and intent of the statement will change. There is an interesting progression to how these can be introduced when teaching. Beginning with ability, moving to possibility, to permission, to request , then advice.
