This was an introductory unit. I learned a number of terms that will likely be useful in later stages of the course. As I am already teaching English as a foreign language in Japan with native Japanese teachers of English I was able to see how these reflect in my teaching and in different teacher styles. I think it will enable me to work better with my Japanese colleagues as I understand how my own teaching style matches with theirs. For example, one of the teachers I work with has a managerial style which leaves students with little opportunity to express themselves. I can try to balance this by acting more as a resource and participating in the lessons myself.
