Unit 10 consisted of 2 video lesson examples. In the first video, from a technical perspective, the teacher did not introduce or present the concepts in a logical way that would make sense for English learners. He used inappropriate language and examples, such as "employment" instead of "work" or "job", as well as using an example involving a nightclub during the game. He could have chosen something more neutral like a restaurant, as he did in the second video. Another major area of practical errors in the first video was not explaining the worksheet instructions, neglecting to do an example question together, and not writing the correct answers on the board when reviewing.
From a subjective perspective, the teacher in the first video was condescending at times, seemed confused as to how to explain many things, and overall lacked in confidence. He didn't give much in positive feedback, rather put down the rest of the class for not saying the correct answer. In the second video, he introduced himself, allowed the students to say their own names, spoke clearly and appropriately, and closed out the class effectively and without sudden harshness or abruptness.
Overall, it is important to remember that the students need to feel comfortable to participate, make mistakes, experiment, and learn in the classroom. Actively engaging and being positive with your class, in conjunction with lessons designed for their level are some of the most crucial aspects to a successful learning experience.
