Unit 9 discusses the topic of lesson planning. Inexperienced teachers will need to create more detailed and thoughtful/reflective lesson plans than teachers with more experience. At any level, lesson planning is essential in order to have a working document that is an aid to planning as well as a historical record. For ESL teachers with lower levels of experience, a lesson plan should include: learner objectives, personal aims, language point, teaching aids, anticipated problems, procedure, phase, timing, interaction, class level, number of students, date/time, and teacher's and observer's names. In addition, one should monitor their lessons and self-evaluate the effectiveness of the lesson and teaching methods on a regular basis.
