In this unit, I have learnt many parts of speech of the English language. As a native speaker, we tend to forget why we use and say the language we have come to know. But we are unaware of why it is important to know the placement of each part of speech in a sentence. What are the rules in our own spoken language. I felt this course an asset in my studies as well as for my teachings. It is evident that teachers know and understand the way our language is broken down and put into speech, in order to properly teach our students. There are a few parts of speech that I understand more through studying this unit. Prepositions are part of everyday speech. There are many types of prepositions that are used for certain instances when relating to time, movement or place in relation with nouns and pronouns. Conjunctions are what connects the ideas and clauses together. When I think of adverbs, I know that these add meaning to actions, verbs and pronouns. They can also modify an adjective. Adverbs have five types which depending on the manner, place, time, degree or frequency, we can place them accordingly in a sentence. For example: He always eats late at night or She actually has a car. I am better prepared to teach my students knowing the importance of the parts of speech I have learned in this course. I feel confident I am able to thoroughly explain these parts to my students.
