This unit outlined the different equipment that the teacher can use. The effective uses of these materials are also discussed. It is quite fascinating for me however to read about the OHP as I didn’t realize that this is still in use in some classrooms. I guess it greatly depends on the country where one is teaching as currently, I have not seen an OHP projector in a long time. This is also true with regards to cassette players and CD players. In some classrooms, I see CD players being used but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a cassette player been used at all. I suppose it is still helpful especially if the country one decides to teach in still uses these things. For the most part though, I think it’s quite outdated.
The unit also gave a list of online sites that I can use and maybe of some help in the future. I think that the overview provided will help me select the materials that I can use in the future better as the insights given in the unit were quite helpful.
All in all, I think that certain amount of planning is necessary in choosing the most appropriate teaching material in a lesson. It is important that the chosen material is maximized for the benefit of the students. Using a variety of materials will also keep the lesson more interesting and adds variety to every day lessons.
