I found Unit 7 to be similar to Unit 3, especially explaining ESA structures. However, this unit specifies a different methods of utilizing ESA for teaching new vocabulary, grammatical structures, and language functions. When I was studying Spanish, I first made an error of only studying and learning vocabulary. Just learning vocabulary really hindered my growth in learning a different language. Thus, learning grammatical structures and language functions is pertinent in speaking another language. I love the suggestions on using ESA methods for teaching each portion of the language. For example, if I were teaching vocabulary using the ESA straight arrow method, I would engage my students with pictures of the new vocabulary. I would spell out the vocabulary and have students repeat the word. Next, I might utilize a matching worksheet, where students draw a line between the word and the correct definition to study. Finally, to activate the vocabulary, I would have students present a poster of the new word to their classmates. These teaching methods will help me grow as an educator.
