Unit 17 covered the variety of equipment and teaching aids that are available to teachers to use in the classroom. Teaching aids supplement the lesson amd make the class more interesting and allow teachers to be less dependent on the textbook. Teaching aids provide additional flexibality, allowing the teacher to bring in real world examples that are more relavent to the students.
The most common teaching aide is a board. It can be a traditional chalk board, but it is becoming standard to use a white board. The board can be used for many purposes, but teachers should be mindful and plan ahead for how they will use the board. Some institutions may even have an interactive white board which is connected to a computer, but as these are more expensive, they might not be found in less prosperous schools.
Overhead projectors are a handy tool, as they allow for layering of transparencies to show progression of an idea. The material can also be reused.
Various visual and audio aids can be utalized to add depth to the class experience. This includes CDs DVDs, videocameras and audio recording equipment.
Many different written aids are also a valuable tool for teachers. These include Dictionaries, Course books and Resource books.
Of course, with the proliferation of the internet and it's global reach there are a nearly infinite number of resources for both teachers and students.
