This was an interesting unit because it discussed aspects of the English case system that I hadn't considered before. It was a simple overview of the future tenses in English, but as it turned out, there are more of them than I expected. I could have told anyone about the future simple, perfect and continuous, but I never thought about "going to" as its own sort of tense, and I never quite defined in my head the situations in which the present simple and continuous can be used to refer to the future (although the same phenomenon shows up in my second language, Russian--albeit in different contexts). I had fun making example sentences and thinking through the subtle differences in usage between the various tenses. I think I am getting better at this. I am very grateful for the exercises that ask me to explain the difference between tenses as I would to a student just learning them; that really prepares me for challenges ahead and forces me to think as a teacher, rather than as a native speaker who intuitively understands the finer points of the English language.
