Unit 7 discusses the various factors that affect teaching a new language. The teacher must tackle how to teach vocabulary, grammatical structures, and language functions. This unit provides examples of lessons (using ESA structures we learned before) that can help with teaching those three language aspects.
When teaching vocabulary, teachers should touch on aspects of the word like the meaning, usage, spelling, and pronunciation. Students may find it more difficult or easier to learn new vocabulary based on the similarity to their native language, previous English words they've learned, spelling and pronunciation of the vocabulary, as well as the appropriacy.
Grammar lessons should touch on various points about the grammatical structure being introduced, such as the meaning, the usage, as well as the formation and patterns of the structure. Sometimes the teacher will also need to address the spoken and written forms of the structure if there are differences between the forms.
If the focus of a lesson is language function, the activate stage will be very important as it allows the students to practice and evaluate the function of the language that they are using and learning.
I find that the unit clearly breaks down the different ways to teach vocabulary, grammar, and language function. It was helpful to see examples of activities that can be utilized for each stage.
