The most familiar teaching aid is probably the board where teachers can write down points for the students to learn and remember. There are also interactive white boards and overhead projectors that also allow teachers to write down and present topics to the students. Worksheets are very helpful for study phases of ESA lessons. Dictionaries, course books, and resource books all provide extensive material for students to refer to when learning in the classroom. Visual aids can help explain key points or vocabulary quickly.
With all equipment in the classroom, teachers should familiarize themselves with how to use it before the lesson to make sure that the lesson runs smoothly. Having a back up plan in case the equipment fails is always a good idea.
Other teaching aids like the video camera can help engage the students and get them to interact in various activities. Some teaching aids like CD/DVD players and cassette recorders can help expose the students to more authentic material.
Teachers should use teaching aids to their advantage to not only help in giving clearer explanations of important points, but also to help keep students engaged and interested.
