This unit covered the topic of special types of English language classes. These can include, but are not limited to, beginners, children, business, and multilingual classes. The unit provided great examples of specific challenges and benefits of working with each type of class. There are certain aspects in each class that need special care. In beginner classes, you may have absolute beginners and false beginners. The teacher would have to find a comfortable place to start where the absolute beginners are not lost, but the false beginners are not bored. Business classes have special attention given to the vocabulary of the business world. Often the students will know or understand the vocabulary, but not know how to correctly form the sentences and questions required for their business world. The teacher would then focus on grammar. Multilingual classes have the advantage of having the common language of everyone being English. This helps reduce the use of the students' mother tongue, and encourage English language usage. Reading about child classes was more beneficial to me. I am interested in teacher children, so having more information about how to specifically teach them was helpful to me. What is important for children is keeping them engaged. The children will have fun learning using games, mimes, and visual aids.
