Unit seven focuses on the vocabulary, grammar, and functions of the language. What is most important is that the students are exposed to the language, they are to understand its meaning and how it's constructed, and finally they should be able to practice and produce it. There are many different techniques that are involved in making an appropriate vocabulary lesson or a lesson on teaching different grammatical structures. When teaching new vocabulary, the teacher should consider several factors including, but not limited to, the similarity between their native language and English, spelling and pronunciation, appropriateness to students, and the meanings of the words. The teaching of new vocabulary and of new grammar functions are structured on the ESA system which share many activities at each level. In the Engage level, pictures, discovery, and discussion can be used. In the Study phase, gap-fills, sentence building, and matching exercises can be used. Finally, in the Study phase, discussion, role-play, and debate are all used in both instances. Learning these techniques has been the most important thing for me in this chapter. I often worry about what kind of activities that I should use as a first-time teacher but this has given me one more step of confidence on how to be an effective teacher.
