In this unit, we learned the foundations of lesson planning and its importance for teaching, specifically with new teachers. It's better to have a guide with fixed goals, rather than just conduct a lesson on the fly. In education there is always a learning goal, both in the short and long term. Lesson plans can keep teachers on track in individual lessons and the curriculum as a whole. These plans can be passed on and even re-used throughout depending on the situation. While each teacher has their own style, lesson plans can keep the overall educational approach on track. Some classes may be short and time needs to be managed. With a loose overall plan for the class, this can help teachers cover all the related information. As an example, a teacher may have a lot to cover and if there are any distractions in class, the timing may be thrown off. If they have a general idea of what tasks take the most time, the class can be adjusted based on this. A teacher may have two Activate phase activities on a lesson plan in case of extra time. I know that it's common for schools to provide lesson plans to new teachers, which can be quite overwhelming to create from scratch. Lesson planning is not something that can be learned in one day and it will take time and practice to become comfortable creating my own.
