In this unit, we learned about several different teaching styles and classroom layouts. The teaching style is unique to each individual. The teacher can either decide to stand or to sit dependent on what activity they choose. Standing shows more authority; while sitting, creates a more relaxed environment. The activities can be classified into pairwork, whole class work, or individual work. Again this is dependent on the teachers teaching styles and the activities he/she chooses. The next concept considered is the classroom layout. There are rows, horseshoes, and individual seating. Each has their pluses and minuses. Rows create more interaction with students however can be hard for the teacher to navigate. Horseshoes are great for a small class and makes the class more intimate, but the teacher might not see everyone. The last one, individual seating, allows for less student-to-student interaction, but is great for more teacher control. The last concept to consider in this unit was classroom management with behavior. We considered several concepts such as white board writing, how to give students the attention they need, the amount of Teacher Talk Time and Student Talk Time, the process of building rapport,giving instructions, and having. Discipline in the classroom. Each quality has its own cause and effect and it is dependent on how the teacher uses them.
