This unit covered basic terms and definitions on the parts of speech. It was very useful to me because as a native English speaker from Australia, I know what is correct in grammar, but sometimes I am unable to explain why. An example of what I learnt from this unit was the difference between a gerund and a past participle. Before this unit, I knew what the difference was, but was not aware of the terminology. By learning the correct terminology of all the parts of speech it will make it easier to teach students who don’t have a correct reference to model their speech on.
