Today we attended two classes to observe the differences in a good and bad class. In the first class we attended, the students were confused. The teacher didn't explain the material correctly nor did he show respect of his students. The teacher referred to his lesson plan notes often, as well. When a student made mistake and told them bluntly that they were wrong. When the teacher passed out a worksheet he did not group the students together to encourage speech. He did not engage the students individually to check for understanding and he rushed the worksheets and ended the activities abruptly. In the second class, the teacher introduced himself and spent adequate time on explaining the material. He called he students individually and if there was confused he went back and tried to explain and had the students elicit answers. Prior to the teacher handing out a worksheet, the teacher explained the instructions and demonstrated what the first answer was. He then grouped the students into small groups of two to three individuals and gave plenty of time for the students to finish the work. The teacher then went over the answers in a thorough matter and planned an activity. When the activity was completed he announced that class was over and thanked them for coming. If we follow the second class's example as teachers, we should have successful student out comes.
