This unit provided the last of the basic grammar skills generally taught for EFL classes. The major points were modals, passive voice, clauses, and phrases. Modals are used in different ways to show ability, certainty, and probability, for example. Some of these words include might, could, should, and can. Passive voice is used when the subject of the sentence is reduced in importance and the verb is put in the past participle. Clauses have the ability to change the meaning of the sentence depending if they are defining or non-defining. The discussion of phrases was the most confusing for me to understand. I speak and write using these phrases, but trying to understand the differences in the types was hard. Going forward in teaching, this is what would be most challenging for me to teach to others.
