This unit dealt with the management of the classroom, from teacher gestures to classroom arrangement to student discipline. Everything needs to be at an appropriate level. The gestures of the teacher will always send a message, so the teacher must ensure that the message is clear and encouraging, not overbearing. The arrangement of the classroom will be beneficial for the teacher and the students. How the classroom is set up is a way to allow more participation, better group work, and a more comfortable environment for learning. Within the arrangement is also how the activities of the class will be handled. There is opportunity for the teacher to have control of the classroom, for group work, for pair work, and for individual work. Each of these has its own pros and cons, so there should be a balance between the types of work. Each setting will also provide an ideal location for the teacher, to optimize learning and confidence amongst the students. Student discipline is also a part of the classroom management. There are internal and external forces at work toward the behavior of the students. Some things the teacher cannot control, but what they can control, they should do their best to manage, such as keeping their own behavior and feelings in check in order to provide relaxed solutions to these problems.
