This unit was a great help for me as a beginner teacher because it gave me so much information about equipment and teaching aids which I believe very essential in teaching English as a second language. The things I learned from this topic which this lesson focused on, were the classrooms resources for teaching namely: the board, interactive whiteboards, overhead projector, visual aids, worksheets, cassette recorder, cd player, videos and DVDs, video camera, dictionaries, course books, resource books, photocopies, and computers. It was also explained its uses and pros and cons which provided me other insights to consider. Another information I got from this topic were the different online resources like dictionary websites, learning websites, literature and poetry websites, media websites, and EFL teaching resources websites. I believe these websites will be great resources for me in the future. This taught me the many benefits of teaching aids include helping learners improve reading comprehension skills, illustrating or reinforcing a skill or concept, differentiating instruction and relieving anxiety or boredom by presenting information in a new and exciting way. Teaching aids also engage students’ other senses since there are no limits in what aids can be utilized when supplementing a lesson. As a conclusion, teaching aids are an essential component in any classroom. I believe as a teacher, effective learning and teaching is impossible to accomplish in the class without these things.
