The past tense is the second tense to be studied in depth. The most relevant information I learned in this chapter was the commonalities between the tenses. All continuous tenses feature some form of the auxiliary verb “to be”. All perfect tenses feature some form of the auxiliary verb “to have”. All perfect continuous tenses contain a form each of the auxiliary verbs used in the perfect and continuous tenses. Another useful feature of this unit was task 7 which asked me to explain the differences in structure and usage between 2 given tenses. This has helped me to classify and more readily identify the different tenses as they are used.
