In this unit I learned about what makes a good teacher, what makes a good student, what the differences can be in teaching students of different ages and language levels, and what the different roles of a teacher are. One new thing I learned was that adult language learners may often try to fit their knowledge of English into their knowledge of their native language, which can be problematic. It was also helpful to review the many roles of a teacher and why each are important in effective teaching of the English language. Finally, by learning about what it’s like to teach adults versus young learners, I have a observed and concluded that I may be personally better suited to teaching adults, and most likely adults at a higher level of English learning.
