This unit covered what it means to be a good teacher and learner as well as the different roles a teacher plays in the classroom while teaching. It explores the different age groups of learners and their motivation and experience of learning in ages 2-7, 8-13 and 14-18 as well as adult learners. There are significant differences between the various age groups that are very important to take into consideration when teaching. The teacher roles need to meet the learners in the various levels, in order to be as effective as possible, from the A1 beginner level to the C2 advanced or proficient and mastery level. There are many aspects to the qualities a teacher should have such as patience, kindness, energy, ability to motivate, respecting the learners especially while correcting mistakes, and encouraging efforts to name a few. My take away from this unit has been that being a teacher requires a lot of skills including the ability to be aware of the who the learners are and working with their individual abilities, which can't occur if the teacher is constantly lecturing and not stepping back to listen to the students and allowing them time to practice, ask questions and absorb the new material they are learning. I find that encouraging students is also very important to keep them motivated whatever the age.
