In this unit I learned that there are different roles a teacher can and should take on while teaching a class. The roles varying from the sole leader to intently observing each student while they study or participate in activities. I believe the most important roles a teacher should take on are manager, model and assessor. While each role is very important, I think being capable of leading a class successfully only sets up students for a good outcome. Being a model while in front of your students is highly desirable because you as a teacher should be the person your students look up to, are comfortable with and will come to you with any questions or problems in class. Then being able to assess your students progress and areas of weakness, and to be able to aid them honestly and kindly, I think is very key to a successful teacher.
I also learned what it takes to have a "good" student; they are highly motivated, have a desire to learn the language, capable of receiving feedback and improve, and ultimately willing to experiment and not be afraid to ask for help. I think the most challenging quality in a student will be motivation, but that will also be the most important because I intend to teach young learners, who are not in class by choice. Building and maintaining motivation through out my term with my students will be very important to keep students excited and engaged.
