In this section we learned about how to teach receptive skills, which include reading and listening. Both of these aspects are equally important when teaching a new language, one cannot be successful in learning without each other. When learning a new language, it is important not to get hung up on the meaning of each single word, which wouldn't allow the student to fully understand the bigger picture of the text. When teaching receptive skills, the teacher needs to be mindful of the topics they choose. To do this successfully, the teacher must choose topics that are relatable and engage the students at their level, not all topics the teacher thinks are interesting, also interest the students. In the end, to be successful, the teacher must vary material, pre-teach vocabulary that may be difficult, engage students before teaching material, and use realistic tasks and activities that allow the student to learn naturally and efficiently.
