The role of student and teacher is really one of a partnership. The teacher is obviously there to teach the fundamentals of speaking English but they are also there to be the motivator for the student (at any age) to feel accepted, comfortable and able to drop their insecurities and be excited about the learning of a language that could change their educational, professional and personal lives. The teacher role needs to have balance such as listed in Unit 1. The teacher needs to be present, on-time and engaged in the learning process to assist when needed, praise when needed, and correct a student in a manner that is effective. This unit also shows the importance of knowing where the students are and meeting them there but in an organized, concise way that allows them to embrace the class, the language and the teacher.
