Unit 11 discussed teaching receptive skills and the importance of reading and listening as a part of learning a new language. It explained that the reasons for reading and listening were either for a purpose of for entertainment. It explained the different ways an individual reads and listens which included: predictive skills, specific information, general idea/skimming, detailed information and deduction from context. It gave examples on how to teach receptive skills by using carefully selected texts and pre-teaching problem vocabulary but also the problem with over teaching problem vocabulary before reading a text. It gave a sample lesson and example of how to teach a receptive skills lesson.
