In this unit I learned about teaching the different types of conditionals, which are complex sentences, with conditions and conesequences,very commonly used in many situations in our lives, and that can be probably some of the most difficult topics for our students to understand because it can be confusing for them to remember their grammar structure and their correct usage. This unit also reviews the most common mistakes our students can make when using conditionals as well as what we, as teachers, can do with teaching ideas and activities to get the most of the practice of these structures in class.
The other main topic of this unit is reported speech, which is needed when we tell others what other people said, therefore is very useful too. The differences between direct speech and reported speech are included, as well the guidelines on how to teach our students to report sentences correctly by making the corresponding verb tenses, pronouns and time expressions changes.
These two topics can be difficult for our students, that’s why I think that by helping them learn about their grammar rules, and by including in our lessons good activities to practice with, it can be much easier for our students to learn to express their thoughts and gain more confidence when they speak English.
