Although this unit was also short, it went into greater detail than the previous unit. Speaking and Writing, the productive language skills, are more observable than their receptive counterparts, and we are therefore have more tokens to examine. The unit began by examining the distinctions between fluency and accuracy and discussed what sort of activities led themselves to each. Next, we examined how to motivate students to speak and interact in the classroom before looking a sample ESA speaking activity and how to prepare and assess it. Turning to writing, the unit emphasized the importance of skills such as handwriting, spelling, layout and punctuation, and creative writing in the writing pedagogy before modeling a typical ESA writing activity. The unit finished with an interesting little section of games, which make amazing communicative tasks.
