This unit focused on teaching vocabulary, grammar, and language functions. It began by emphasizing that these elements of language are extremely important and must be taught to students. After the introduction, there were respective sections for vocabulary, grammar and language functions that described the rationale for why we teach them, what it a student must be able to do in order to "know" them, what activities should be used during each respective stage of the ESA approach and an example lesson. What I found particularly useful was how this unit outlined the flexibility of the ESA approach by providing sample boomerang and patchwork lesson plans for teaching grammar and functions, as I have hitherto used the PPP approach to forms and it has not always had the best results in the classes I have taught.
