I think having a clear understanding of the different phases of lessons is very important because as a student I know how boring it can be to just sit and drill for an hour on a new topic. This allows for compliments, then a couple of questions to get the student to think about their work. Finally for some negative feedback in the form of constructive criticism. Obviously, the goal is to make the student interested in the language, but it is not worth learning something if you are learning it wrong.
