In this unit I could learn about evaluations and tests, which are very useful tools we can use to assess our students’ English level, skills and progress. Evaluation is important at all stages in the courses: before the start or at the beggining of the course, when we can apply placement tests –to test our students’ levels- or diagnostic tests to know what they know and don’t know. Then as we advance, we can apply progress tests on what we have covered in class, so that we can measure the language our students have acquired or forgotten, and reinforce if necessary. Then, later on, we can apply achievement tests, to determine whether we are achieving the course objectives.
We also have specific practice tests, which students can take periodically when they are getting prepared to take an external examination or proficiency test such as the TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC and others. This unit also offers great descriptions on those common proficiency tests and others which students can take for studies and work, or inmigration purposes mostly. Students can also evaluate their course, for example with a questionnaire or guided discussion the teacher can organize in the class.
